As a teacher, guidance counselor, ESL teacher/director, curriculum director, head of school, assistant principal, and principal, Ms. Burger held numerous positions in private and Catholic elementary and secondary schools in many states prior to becoming principal at St. Teresa of Avila Catholic School.
Along with providing her a foundation of faith, Ms. Burger's educational background helped her develop a commitment to a career in Catholic education. From Villa Maria Elementary School, an all-girls' Catholic grade school run by the Sisters of St. Joseph, to Mercyhurst Preparatory School, a Catholic all-girls' high school run by the Sister of Mercy, and then to Gannon University, a Catholic co-ed university where she earned both her bachelor's degree in English and a master's in education, these institutions positively and indelibly defined her.
Seventh and eighth grade, considered by many a teacher to be a wild, untamed country, was the first grade level she stepped into during her tenure as a language arts teacher. That first teaching position was in a large Catholic elementary school in Erie, Pennsylvania, also her hometown.
As she moved to different states she had the opportunity to teach different grade levels and different subjects, but the bond with that wild country of middle school language arts always stuck with her.
Ms. Burger realized after teaching for a number of years, she could be of service in a different way, on a large scale. That's when she came to see an even wilder world out there - administration.
She is most proud of her children. She has a son, Nicholas (1982) and daughter, Kelly (1984). Both live in California and graduated from St. Mary's College of California.
Ms. Burger joins the staff in the 2013-2014 school year.
