St. Teresa of Avila Catholic School - Wednesday, February 22, 2012

The 6th grade is working on finding the GCF, greatest common factor and divisibility rules. These skills will be very valuable as we move into all operations and real life applications with fractions.

Angles, measurement, plane geometry are all current topics for the 7th grade. 

The 8th grade is finding percents using proportions and equations. 

Friday 2/24 is free dress, spring picture day.

Hello Parents,

News and announcements for the week:
        • *Service Project Snack Bags- please send in those baggies full of non-perishable snack items by Tuesday.
        • *Mass at school this Wednesday 1/25. Sweaters, mass attire please. 
        • Donuts, string cheese available at recess for $1- donut, $.50- string cheese.
        • *National Junior Honor Society Induction Ceremony follows mass on Wednesday. All are welcome.
        • *Report cards will be sent home on Thursday, 1/26. Please SIGN and RETURN your child's report card and home folder on Friday.
        • *Science Fair entry forms are due soon. I don't know Mr. Jennings exact date but please ask your student what they are planning for their science fair project.
        • *Schools Week mass and pancake breakfast is next Sunday 9:30. We hope to have as many St. Catholic Teresa students as possible representing and showing pride in their school at that mass. I will send a reminder later in the week.
        • *Mass drivers needed for mass next Wednesday 2/1 at Manogue. Please email Lisa Marchegger if you are available. We will depart St. T @ 9:40, mass begins @ 10:30.
        • *Math INTEGER projects are due 2/2. Please check in with your child and see how this project is coming along.
        • Valentine party plans are in the works.... more to come on this later.

News and Announcements for the Week of 1/17-1/20
  • We would like to welcome a new student to 7th grade- Dylan S.
  • Wednesday evening 6:30 PTO meeting. The 7th and 3rd grade have prepared a special prayer. 7th graders will be reading a snippet from their Catholic Schools Week Essay. Please have your child at this special meeting by 6:20 so we can line up with 3rd grade.
  • RSVP to the Parent Appreciation Lunch... a pink paper went home in home folders last week. The Appreciation Hot Lunch is Feb 2, Thursday. Please return the RSVP slip by Friday.
  • Catholic Schools Week service project snack bags. We are currently gathering quart size bags full of non-perishable snacks as part of the All Catholic Schools food drive. Please have your snack bags to school by Jan 25. (This was a purple piece of paper in the home folders)
  • Hot Lunch Friday- 1/20 
  • The 7th grade math class is working on an integer math project. Everyone has been given a menu of project choices worth 100 pts, a free choice list, and a rubric. Please ask your student what project they are working on. The projects are due February 2. I am super excited to see the creative ways you child is able to display the integer rules.

Hello All, 

News and announcement for the week:

  • Catholic School Week Essay is due on Wednesday this week. Please ask you child about this writing assignment. They have been working hard in Religion and Social Studies to complete this assignment. I have read some amazing examples of how Catholic Schools have benefitted your child.
Spanish mid-term on Tuesday, 1/10. No Spanish on Wednesday due to Mass at Church.

TUESDAY is kick-off of the Middle-School Youth Group with youth minister Joe at the Church. It is from 6:00-7:30 at Chartz Hall. This is a wonderful opportunity for your child to grow in FAITH and Fellowship. Please encourage your child to attend.

Book reports are due in Mrs. Evan's class on Wednesday, 1/11.

Mass at church on Wednesday, 1/11. Please have your student in mass attire- tie, sweater, skirt...etc. by 8:15 so we may line-up with our buddies. Mass driver list to go home Monday.
Donuts after mass- $1.00. Juice, and string cheese available for $.50.

Service hours are due on Thursday, 1/12. A brief summary, with signatures and totaled hours must be turned in on Thursday.

Hot lunch- chicken noodle soup- if pre-paid in September... Thursday, 1/12.

No School Friday- teachers are attending the Dioscean Conference in Reno.

Reminders... Announcements....12/13

  • Please sign and return your student’s homefolder and progress report. While you are taking care of that business, you might as well slip the ice skating/ pizza money in there.

 

  • $10.00 for the ice skating/ pizza party is due to your child’s homeroom teacher by Tuesday.

 

  • We welcome any parents who wish to help with the party on Friday, December 16. Any parents interested in walking from St. Teresa to the skating rink, or helping serve pizza, please email kroide@stts.org

 

  • Tuesday- Bring a 2nd sack lunch- community service project. Please pack a second sack lunch with non-microwavable items to be donated to FISH.

 

  • Tuesday- Geography Bee, all are welcome to come and who will move onto the next round vs. the top finishers from Carson City. The excitement begins right after morning announcements.

 

  • Wednesday is Mass at school. Mass uniform please.

Wednesday is also Pizza Hot Lunch.

Congratulations to Grace Bayliss for winning the Geography Bee- She is moving on to the Carson City Geo-Bee.

All middle school students have begun their Catholic Schools Week essay. The theme is Faith. Academics. Service. Ask your child how going to a Catholic school has deepened their faith, strengthened their academics and provided many opportunities to serve.





Reminders & Announcements for 10/31

Happy Nevada Day!

Reminders for the week:

Monday will be a very exciting day for the whole school. We will have all primary students parade through the upper classes for treats. Deacon Gil will be here to share his knowledge on All Saint’s Day. We have our middle school Halloween party from 1:45- 2:45. No costumes please. Just come as a St. T student and be ready for some fun.

Monday is the last day to bring canned food for FISH.  Let’s all try to bring just ONE more can.

Bring your pumpkins into the MPR for the decorating contest. The cost is $3 for entry. Be sure to pick it up at the end of the day so you can enjoy it on your porch.

Tuesday 11/1 is All Saints Day. Please have all students at St. Teresa Church by 8:15.

Mass driver list will go home on Monday. Thank you Lisa Marchegger, for organizing. Please remember sweaters and ties. Skirts for girls.

Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, are 12:30 early release days because of Parent Teacher Conferences. I look forward to seeing you this week.

Book fair is going on all this week. Stop by the library to do a little early Christmas shopping.

Please sign and return your student’s report card and conduct sheet.  Also,  return homefolders tomorrow. They went home Thursday and a lot has happened since then, so just a friendly reminder to check those backpacks.
