Here is information regarding the content for this week. Please check planners nightly for specific homework.
Religion:
Instead of memorizing Psalms, we will spend the next few weeks memorizing the new Mass responses.
The quiz on Friday will be on the following: "The Lord be with you. And with your spirit."
We will learn about Advent this week and how to prepare ourselves for Christmas. There will be a test on this on Friday.
As part of our religion, we will be involved in an outreach project. As part of the project, we will create Christmas cards with notes inside for Ms. Small's nephew and his colleagues who are in Afghanistan. Some of them are on their third U. S. Air Force deployment there and will not be home for Christmas.
Math:
Students will compare and order decimals with continued Accelerated Math practices and tests.
Social Studies:
In social studies, students will begin reading and studying Chapter 4 which is on early European settlements in North America. Students will compare and contrast different cultures and their relationships with the Native Americans as they began to settle.
Geography:
Students will be preparing for the Geography Bee preliminary competition. The school competition for grades 4-8 will be held on December 13th.
Science:
Food chains/webs and energy pyramids will be explored as part of our study on ecosystems.
Reading:
Students will read and analyze various autobiographies over the next few weeks as part of our study on narrative writing. We will focus on reading and comprehension with each story and then reread to further develop our knowledge of how to write with details and organization.
Language Arts/Spelling:
Students will begin a new personal narrative and continue to practice idea development and organization in their writing.
Capitalization will be reviewed as a writing and editing skill. A quiz will take place on Friday in relation to this skill.
Students need to practice their spelling words from Lesson 13 from the list that is in the homework folder. The spelling test will be given on Friday.
ANNOUNCEMENTS:
The Christmas Benefit will be on Saturday, December 3rd. The doors open at 10:00 AM. We would like to thank Mrs. Loos for arranging the gift baskets for our class as well as anyone else who assisted with that project. We greatly appreciate it!
