Content and Announcements for Jan. 23-27

St. Teresa of Avila Catholic School - Monday, January 23, 2012

Here is information regarding the content for this week.  Please check planners nightly for specific homework.

Religion:

We will learn about God's grace and the gifts of the Holy Spirit including how they relate to Baptism and Confirmation.  The Chapter 7 Family Page was sent home last Thursday.

Memorize Ezekial 36:27 by Friday:  God's Spirit, which is grace, encourages us to follow his teachings and laws.

Math:

Estimating quotients continues as we begin to divide whole numbers by 2 digit divisors.

Social Studies:

In social studies, students will begin to learn about the colonies in the south.  We will start Chapter 6 this week in our textbook.

Science:

Since we finally have precipitation (hurrah!), the water cycle's importance and processes will be studied.  The hexagonal shapes of snowflakes and the recent study of them by physicist K. Libbrecht will be included.  Homework will include tracking the water a student uses in a day/week.

Reading:

Our class has begun a unit on the theme of survival.  This week, students will engage in conversations about survival as it is seen in the book My Side of the Mountain.  Students will be analyzing the plot as it relates to our theme.

Language Arts/Spelling:

This week, students will study words from List 16 in their spelling notebooks.

In language, prepositions will be taught and students will begin to understand prepositional phrases.

Another personal narrative will be written during the week and typed into My Access.

ANNOUNCEMENTS:

We will have Mass at school on Wednesday, January 25th.  This is also the last day that we will be collecting the snack bags that will be given to the Catholic Charities of Northern Nevada.  The flier with specific details has already been sent home.

Next week is Catholic Schools Week.  If you would like to join us for an "Appreciation Lunch" on Thursday, February 2nd, please return the pink form that was in the home folders.  We will need an accurate count for lunch.  Thank you!

Have a great week!
